"Today I was mostly looking for wildlife" as they used to say (kind of) on the Fast Show! And mostly not finding any! We did see a lot of ducks which didn't like us so flew away! Anyway you can't win them all. Tomorrow will be better... |

Bosque is the wintering place of many thousands of Sandhill Cranes, amazing birds that are unchanged for thousands of years and directly descended from the dinosaurs. They are omnivorous which must help with their longevity. MORE PHOTOS HERE

Must be tiring being a harrier, this one sat and watched for a while and then had a good stretch. Wonderful birds though. More photos here. |

Well now winter is here with a vengeance and so images of ice crystals on our windows seem very appropriate. Enjoy and think of the wild creatures who have to survive in these sometimes Arctic conditions! |

Sometimes birds just make you laugh, this is a Great Blue Heron in case you didn't recognize it, and the temperature is 5 degrees F (-15C) and it is standing on one leg, I've no idea where it has hidden the other one, and its head is stuck down among its feathers! Looks cold doesn't it! Poor creatures have to survive the Colorado winters, they aren't laughing! |

Despite the early hour and the cold I enjoyed filming the wood duck, amazingly colourful birds. I did have to deal with mist rising of the river between us so could only film when the mist reduced! |

Was out filming birds today and this red-tail hovered over me for a few minutes. Nice. |

I find ice patterns amazing and Colorado is a great place to study them. There are more images in the Rocky Mountain national park landscape gallery. Enjoy. |

It's not every day you see a wild mink hunting for food, in this case fish, and successfully catching them repeatedly. Wonderful to watch. Life is good, he performed for us for about half an hour. |

How many times in our lives do we get the chance to even see wild owls up close? Well surely a wild screech owl is a pretty rare event. It is for me anyway. Great day. I didn't even wake him up! |
