There is nothing more beautiful than a young Coot, well there might be, maybe! Either way they are surprising creatures. 

Scottish osprey nest, three young but they were out of sight today. Two parents in the tree standing guard. 

The dramatic colours of the Goldfinch, in this case saying "What did you say?!" He looks a bit cross!

A long visit from the female today followed by the male, do they talk to each other? 

In the US we have the Great Horned Owl and in Europe the somewhat similar and equally powerful Eagle Owl. Wonderful birds, this one is owned by a falconer.

We had Robins nesting in our nestbox this year and one of the juveniles seems to be still hanging around, over the last few days it has been very interested in my digging and comes very close without fear.  Today it cleaned the flies out of the greenhouse and learned about glass windows!

A visit to the Farne Islands off Northumberland gave me a great chance to film seabirds, and of course the favourite is always the puffins, now they have young in their burrows so they are busy bringing sand eels and small fish in for them, and braving the black headed gulls who attempt to steal the fish. 

Goldfinches come to the thistle seed feeder and this one wanted to wipe its beak on the perch. Which gave me an opportunity for this shot. 

Now the woodpecker gets ever braver and drinks from the water bowls. 

Did you know they have spotted underwings? I didn't.
