Lovely winter morning, frost on all the trees, beautiful. We drove to see the birds and found kingfisher, bald eagle, kestrel, mallards, wood ducks, shovelers and a heron. It's a priviledge to be allowed to get this close.

Obviously the kestrel doesn't own a dog but it does poop on the signpost often enough. This is a female with blood on her beak so she must have eaten today.

Driving along my favourite ditch today I spotted this Northern Harrier preening on a fence post. So I drove in slowly  (cars make great hides) and noticed another photographer (my friend Vic) already parked and actively filming. I took a lot of shots of the preening process and knew that sooner or later he/she would take off and give me a chance of a flight shot. Eventually, many arm-aching minutes later he did just that and I was lucky to get this frame. Wonderful, such amazing birds.
