Winter came today with a light snowfall. The willows by the river are a bright red colour. On my walk I saw 2 roe deer, and a family of whooper swans.

An otter was feeding in the river today so I waited patiently and got this shot before he climbed up onto the bank ate the fish and dived in again, he disappeared before I could get any more pictures.

The river rose and flooded bringing with it full size dead trees and lots of debris, including an amazing amount of plastic waste. When the level drops the rubbish will be cleared up and burnt by the boatmen. Wish we could keep our planet a little cleaner though. In a way these floods are cathartic in the sense of washing away many diseased fish and rubbish which has collected along the river. And of course much of it will end up in the sea.

Female Eurasian Blackbird stocking up on hawthorn berries, there were lots of Fieldfares around too helping out. In order to film this you have to wait patiently and act quickly when the chance occurs. In a less public place a hide/blind would work.

Nuthatch on the bird feeder, often they will, like other birds hide the seeds in tree bark.

Stoat on the alert. If you find one they are not difficult to film since they have no fear, but they do move fast!

During my walk today I came across a stoat (no fear of humans whatsoever) and got some photos, see the link on the home page, as well as finding two dead cormorants beside the river (what did they die of I wonder?), and a group of nine whooper swans flying over, calling loudly and looking for the ideal place to land. Salmon still jumping and lots of diseased fish both alive and dead around the margins. Beautiful day with bright sunshine, clear skies and cool but no wind so it feels lovely and warm. No otters to be seen today.

A misty morning makes for atmospheric shots, taken with a long lens and I darkened the midtones.

These are White-fronted Geese which is amazing as I have never seen them before, only when I enlarged the photo to ID them did I realise what they were. I need to find out from the birders if they are unusual here.

Kestrel landing on a post. They tend to be shy here so it's nice to get a shot of one. They roost on my house each night but I refuse to disturb them.
